A company called EyeLock has spent the last seven years developing iris scanning software that recognizes users by their eyes. Here's a crazy stat: The False Acceptance Rate of the average fingerprint sensor (how often a scanning system is fooled by the wrong finger) is once in every 10,000 scans, while for iris scans, it's only 1 in 2.25trillion scans. (Plus, people have already been complaining about other problems with their iPhone scanners, too.)
EyeLock's cutting-edge scanning hardware and software were previously only available in enterprise environments, but this week, at CES in Las Vegas, the company announced that it will be launching Myris, a USB-powered iris scanner for consumers.
