They used Canon 1Ds MarkII, Canon 1Ds MarkIII, Canon 5D MarkII, and a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1to take their photos.
The pictures are so insanely detailed you won't even believe they're real.

The S&P 500 Is On Track To Complete A Pattern That Has Ended In Annual Gains 100% Of The Time

gold bull calf

The S&P 500 is on track to finish February in the black, and if it does history suggests it should be positive for the year.
With one trading session remaining, the S&P 500 is now up 1.2 percent so far this month and was edging higher in morning trading.

In a recent research note, Sam Stovall of S&P Capital IQ reports that there have been 26 times since 1945 that the S&P 500 scored gains in both January and February.
In all 26 instances, Stovall says the "500" recorded a positive calendar year total return, averaging an advance—including dividends—of 24 percent and posting full-year results that were in the single digits just twice: 1987 and 2011.

Here Are The Wild New Adidas Uniforms That Six College Basketball Powers Will Wear During March Madness

After Adidas introduced the new sleeved jerseys for the Golden State Warriors, we heard that they would be doing the same for some college basketball teams. But we had no idea they would also be so brightly colored or have so much "camouflage" pattern.
The initial reaction by most appears to be that these uniforms are ugly or even hideous, especially for a schools like Kansas and UCLA, which have always had a traditional uniform.
However, we think Cincinnati, Baylor, and Louisville might actually look pretty good on the court. On the other hand, that green in the Notre Dame uniforms is hard on the eyes.
In addition to UCLA, Baylor and Louisville's new jerseys have sleeves.  According to Adidas, the uniforms are to be worn during the postseason...

Fujitsu makes 'smart walking stick' to help elderly

A walking stick with built-in sat-nav has been developed by Japanese technology giant Fujitsu.
The Next Generation Cane is designed to help elderly people find their way, as well as monitor things such as heart rate and temperature.
Its location can also be followed online - and can be set up to send email alerts if it thinks the user may have fallen over.
Technology for the elderly is a key concern for Japan's ageing population.
Fujitsu, like several companies in the region, is looking at ways to help us remain mobile and connected later into our lives - potentially extending our ability to keep on working.

US may consider military action, financial sanctions as repercussions for cyber attacks

Today at the RSA cybersecurity conference, the White House’s cybersecurity leader Michael Daniel stated that the United States has a range of options under consideration for responding to cyber incursions.
According to The Hill’s Jennifer Martinez, the list of possible actions includes “financial sanctions, visa restrictions and military action.” TNW parses that as meaning that no method of possible deterrence has been removed from possibility.  This is the proverbial ‘all options on the table’ moment.
Cybersecurity, long a simmering issue in American politics and policy, has reached a new plane of intensity following both first-hands reports by media and technology companies of hacking, but also a report by Mandiant, a security firm, published in the New York Times that indicated that a Chinese military unit was committing aggressive acts of hacking that infringed on American corporate interests and infrastructure points.

Union Budget 2013 Highlights: Minor sops to Income Tax payers, surcharge on super rich

New Delhi: Walking a tight rope ahead of next year's General Elections, Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday did not tinker with the Income Tax slabs or rates while presenting the Union Budget 2013-14 in the Lok Sabha. As part of his tax proposals, he gave a benefit of Rs 2,000 to individual tax payers with taxable income of up to Rs 5 lakh.

Chidambaram also imposed a surcharge of 10% on those earning over Rs 1 crore in a year. This surcharge has been imposed on individuals, HUFs, firms and entities with a similar tax status. The surcharge would be payable for the 2013-14 fiscal only.

The Finance Minister announced that first-home buyer who takes a loan for an amount not exceeding Rs 25 lakh would be allowed an additional deduction of interest of Rs 1 lakh to be claimed in assessment year 2014-15 with spillover effect.

But in bad news for consumers, the Finance Minister made mobile phones, cigarettes and luxury vehicles costlier by hiking duties on these products. -

Can herbal remedies beat cancer?

herbs-cancerHerbal remedies have been used by people in different parts of the world to treat a variety of conditions. When it comes to cancer, many people with a strong belief in alternative therapy will often approach an herbal medicine practitioner to find relief from the symptoms of the condition, alleviate the side effects of radiation or chemotherapy or to prevent spreading of the cancer. Considering the astounding findings being thrown up by studies on the medicinal properties of herbs, modern-day research is beginning to focus on the usefulness of herbal drugs in cancer.
Basics of Cancer
Cancer basically consists of normal cells getting transformed into abnormal ones by activation of certain oncogenes and suppression of certain other genes that normally suppress tumour formation. These abnormal cells then grow in an uncontrolled manner, avoiding the process of cell death called apoptosis that normal cells undergo. New blood vessels develop to supply nutrition to the tumour and this growth soon attacks other tissues and spread all over the body. The presence of chronic inflammation has been linked to cancer growth and much of the current research on herbal drugs shows that plant ingredients that can reduce or control inflammation are valuable against cancer.

Junagadh

The ancient city of Junagadh is a famous tourism and pilgrimage centre in Gujarat. It was once the capital of the Nawabs of Junagadh.
About 105 km east of Porbandar in Saurashtra peninsula, Junagadh means old fort and is also known as ‘Sorath’ (the name of a princely state). Located at the foothill of the Girnar range, it is the seventh largest city in Gujarat.
The city is an interesting mix of Buddhist monuments, mosques, Hindu temples, elaborate mansions and gothic archways. There are many Hindu and Jain temples on the Girnar range of mountains that can be reached by climbing about 10,000 steps.
The city was ruled by the Babi Nawabs from 1748 AD till India’s independence. While the ruler merged his country with Pakistan, the overwhelming majority of his subjects wanted to become a part of India. Junagadh was forcibly merged with India through police action and the last Nawab fled to Pakistan. Bollywood actress Parveen Babi hailed from the Nawab’s family.

Kerala temple festivals: Times for elephantine celebrations

Festivals in Kerala are grand affairs; from majestic parades featuring at times more than 20 caparisoned elephants to over three million gathering for a religious activity at a single place.
Known for their pomp and pageantry, the temple festivals are occasions when the characteristic simplicity of Kerala lifestyle is put on suspended animation and the average Malayali goes all out to stage a show bound to impress one and all.
Travel.india.com lists three temple festivals to look for in February-March.
Guruvayur Temple Elephant Race
It’s the elephant equivalent of the Pampalona Bull Run and minus the blood and gore. Anayottam or elephant race marks the beginning of the annual festival at the Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple. Celebrated in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February-March), this year it falls on February 23.
No gold medals or wreath honours awaits the winner. The winner will have the honour of carrying the Thidambu (the replica of the idol of Guruvayoorappan) on all special occasions for one year.
The Guruvayur temple is one of the most renowned temples and the honour of being the Lord’s Favourite Mount carries much more prestige, atleast for their handlers.

Do you like Shilpa Shetty’s Shivan and Narresh outfit?

The actor was spotted wearing a rather unusual dress on the sets of Nach Baliye 5

We love Shilpa Shetty’s style sense and her uber classy fashion choices, especially the ones she chooses to don on the sets of Nach Baliye 5. Surprising us yet again with a stylish creation, SS was seen posing like an absolute diva in a Shivan and Narresh design. She tweeted, “I love the construction of the dress.” And we love it too – the loose kaftan-like shape at the top and a sheath at the bottom makes it different from the rest. Also the pink and black contrast is a visual delight.

Himmatwala song Thank God it’s Friday: Sonakshi Sinha wants to freak out!

The Dabangg 2 babe is in a mood to let her hair down in this groovy disco number

It’s time to groove to the latest disco song from Sajid Khan’s remake of the 1983 film Himmatwala. The number Thank God it’s Friday features Sonakshi Sinha in her much slimmer version. The babe is in a shimmery sequined outfit and a silver headband completes her retro disco look. The 25-year-old then quickly changes into a tight leather outfit comprising a leather pant and a funky black top with high boots and other accessories, but the retro charm remains intact throughout the number. Sung by the versatile Sunidhi Chauhan, this track will make you nostalgic about the 1980s era.

Ill-health or divahood: What is the real reason behind Pratyusha Banerjee’s exit from Balika Vadhu

While news reports suggest that Pratyusha’s starry behaviour caused her ouster, the channel maintains that she had been skipping too many shoots and had to be replaced. We tell you the real story…

Yesterday we told you that Pratyusha Banerjee, who portrayed the role of Anandi in Balika Vadhu on Colors, is leaving the popular show. And yes, it came as a rude shock not only to us, but also to her co-stars.
Shashank Vyas, who plays the character of Jagya in BV, started his career with Pratyusha. The actor was completely unaware that his first television co-star was no longer a part of the show. “I just got back from Bangkok yesterday. As soon as I landed, calls from reporters and friends poured in asking me about this. Frankly, I was shocked, so I called up Pratyusha to ask her and she confirmed it. She said that she was leaving the show for some personal reasons,” he said. Anandi’s new husband Shiv played by Siddharth Shukla was also taken aback with this sudden decision. He said, “Pratyusha told us about her decision just day before yesterday. We didn’t get any prior notice really.”

Exiled From Iran, A Singer Makes The Case For Beauty

Strict laws made it impossible for the Iranian singer Hani to pursue her dream in her home country.

A petite woman prances across the stage at Kurdistan TV in Erbil, northern Iraq, with her long, brown hair bouncing behind her.
A band begins to play, the studio audience falls quiet, and the woman starts to sing. Her voice is powerful and her message is personal: It's about fleeing to a foreign land to find freedom.
"Hani," as she calls herself, grew up in next-door Iran, where she learned to sing traditional Iranian music. Eventually, she formed a group with other Iranian women and they started singing in shows. Iran's Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance allowed them to perform, but only if no men were in the audience.

Dictionary Of Idioms Gets Everybody On The Same Page

The "elephant in the room" is something obvious that can't be overlooked, even if no one is talking about it. The phrase was in use as early as 1935.

If you've ever shot the breeze, had a heart-to-heart or bent somebody's ear — in fact, if you've ever talked at all — odds are you've used an idiom. These sometimes bizarre phrases are a staple of conversation, and more than 10,000 of them are collected in the latest edition of The American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms, which came out this week.
The new volume contains hundreds of new entries. Author Christine Ammer tells NPR's Renee Montagne that idioms are added to the book based on how commonly they're used. "I usually go by the frequency with which I hear them used and where I see them used in print," she says. "There are some that simply jump out at you because they're used so often, even though they may be of very early provenance."

First Space Tourist Sets Sights On A Mars Mission

Space tourist Dennis Tito celebrates after his landing near the Kazakh town of Arkalyk on May 6, 2001.

The world's first space tourist is financing a project that aims to launch an American man and woman on a mission to fly by Mars in 2018.
Back in 2001, businessman Dennis Tito shelled out about $20 million to ride a Russian spaceship up to the International Space Station. Now he's unveiled a new nonprofit group called the Inspiration Mars Foundation.
It's working to take advantage of a launch opportunity coming up in January of 2018. That's when the planets will be aligned in a way that would let people fly to Mars, loop around the planet, and return home in just 501 days — a pretty short trip.
At their closest approach, the two space travelers would be within 100 miles of the red planet. "I mean, that's essentially being there," says Tito, who held a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to announce his plans.

Pope Benedict Leaves A Church Mired In Crises

In this photo provided by the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, Pope Benedict XVI delivers his message during his farewell meeting to cardinals Thursday. Benedict promised his "unconditional reverence and obedience" to his successor.
AP
Today is the last day of the papacy of Pope Benedict XVI. Just two weeks ago, the German-born pope stunned the world by announcing he would be the first pope to resign in 600 years. After eight years on the throne of St. Peter, Benedict leaves behind a church in crisis.
Since the announcement, bulletins issued by the Vatican have ranged from the lofty — how Benedict will retire to a life dedicated to prayer and study — to the mundane, such as the details of packing the pope's personal belongings and what he'll leave behind.
In a sign that even the Vatican was totally unprepared for the resignation, it took two weeks to decide Benedict's new title and what he would wear.

Explora Rapa Nui, The World's Most Remote Luxury Hotel

The most remote luxury hotel in the world has more in common with a youth hostel than it'd like to admit. There are cool parts of the common spaces; there are places where nobody would be caught dead. There's a bar right in the middle of things. People meet in the hallways and aren't sure which language to speak. Do you say "hola" or "hello" or "guten tag" -- and more importantly, how can you decide in a split second which to deploy? There are cliques among the guests.
And yet the Explora Rapa Nui is no youth hostel. It is an outpost on the fringes of the planet -- a place the locals sometimes call, depending on your translation, "the navel" or "the end" of the world. That a small group of people were able to bend the environment to their will in the construction of this hotel would be itself an accomplishment worth acknowledging. Here, though, they've done it while achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design recognition, making this hotel the first in South America to meet those lofty LEED standards, all the while more than 2,300 miles from mainland Chile.

Silfra, Iceland: Snorkeling In Thingvellir Valley On Cold Winter Days

THINGVELLIR, Iceland (AP) — The air above the Silfra rift was freezing and the water in it was only a couple degrees higher, just warm enough to be liquid. Going under was a small shock to the skin — but stunning to the eyes.
The weak light of a grayish Icelandic winter day transformed into an intense glow of blues and greens, offset by brown and golden sand and rocks. From above, Silfra is just a dull ditch between dark chunks of lava; from below, an extravagant, eerie maze.
If the sights don't take up all available brain cells, a snorkeler or diver can also wonder at how he is, with a bit of poetic license, swimming between two continents

Worlds Tallest Hotel

The world's tallest hotel has officially opened in -- where else? -- Dubai.
The 1,164-foot JW Marriott Marquis Dubai is just 290 feet shorter than the Empire State Building and has gotten the nod from the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's tallest. The hotel has 72 floors, including a duplex penthouse cocktail bar.
The hotel, which spans not one but two towers, also has nine restaurants, four other bars, a huge spa, health club, plentiful meeting space, 684 rooms and 120 suites.

Cake Decorations: The Most Beautiful Chocolates And Candies

Cake Decoration Chocolate Candy
Some chocolates look so good we can't wait to eat them. Others are almost too beautiful to eat.
This is the case with the strikingly realistic cake decorations, chocolates and candies from Andie's Specialty Sweetsshop on Etsy. Andie's makes a variety of sweet confections, some for cake decorations, others suitable for party favors and the rest just for eating, but their sweets are not your everyday confections.
Andie's Specialty Sweets shapes their candy and chocolate into realistic everyday objects. Scrabble tiles look so real, it's hard to believe you can pop them in your mouth. Andie's sea shell chocolates look so much like the real thing that you can almost smell the ocean. Even though we can't decide if we want to eat or keep Andie's creations, one thing we know for sure is that we're downright smitten over them.

Arugula Recipes: Ways To Use The Peppery Green

Arugula Recipes Healthy
Arugula most often lands on your salad plate, and that's fine. But this bright and peppery has a flavor that lends itself todishes beyond salad -- pastas, pestos and pizza toppings, to name a few.
Hailing from the Mediterranean region, arugula (a.k.a. rocket and rucola) is available all year round in the supermarket, but it's exceptionally flavorful during the spring and summer seasons. Baby arugula is the most tender and mild in flavor, so it's best for salads or picky eaters. Mature arugula leaves, which are much more pungent and bitter, are great for cooking or making into pesto. Try both and see which kind you like the most -- if your taste is anything likePresident Obama's, you'll probably like both.
