Apple has reportedly acquired Primesense, which is an Israel-based chipset maker that specializes in three-dimensional technology and is best known for powering Microsoft’s original Xbox 360 Kinect. Reuters reports bysourcing Calcalist financial newspaper that the deal has been finalized for $345 million. It was back in July, whenApple was rumored to be in talks with Primesense for the acquisition and had offered to pay $280 million for the company.
There is no note of conformation on this deal from either company as yet, though it is believed that the deal will be announced in public in roughly about two weeks time. A spokeswoman for Primesense has reportedly said that, “We do not comment on what any of our partners, customers or potential customers are doing and we do not relate to rumors or recycled rumors.”
Apple has for long been rumored to be working on embedding 3D sensor technology in its future products including the much talked about television project and thus was keen on buying Primesense. And with this acquisition happening, we might even see Apple adding gesture controls in its new generation iPhones and iPads as well as add some functionalities to the iWatch as well.
