ZTE reportedly working on a smartwatch, to only work with its own smartphones

ZTE’s proprietary smartwatch is in the making, earlier report have suggested. Adding to which, The Wall Street Journal now reports that the Chinese vendor’s smartwatch will come with Galaxy Gear-like features but will be priced cheaper than the latter. These smartwatches will first remain exclusive to the company’s in-house smartphones. However, the company might consider adding support for other Android smartphones as well in future.
Lu Qianhao, ZTE’s head of handset marketing strategy, was quoted saying that ZTE is only focusing on mainstream markets, and even though the company will first launch its smartwatch in China only, it may introduce it in other markets including the US and European markets later.
The company plans to unveil these yet unnamed smartwatches in the second quarter of 2014. Besides smartwatches, the company is also planning to explore other wearable devices like smart glasses and smart shoes for healthcare purpose, though these are still in the research stage and the company has not specified launch plans for these products.
