Apple today announced users have downloaded over 45 billion unique apps (does not include redownloads and updates) from the App Store. This comes roughly three months after it had announced crossing the 40 billion figure in January. The company claims that app developers have made over $9 billion from selling their apps from the Store, $4.5 billion of which has come from the most recent four quarters. In January, Apple had said developers had made over $7 billion, which means that they made roughly $2 billion in this quarter alone.
Apple is claiming on an average 800 apps are downloaded per second and the App Store accounts for 74 percent of global app sales. The iTunes Store, which serves apps, music, movies and books, for the first time, accounted for $4 billion in billing in a quarter, accounting for $2.8 billion in revenues.
