Intel Haswell-E enthusiast series CPUs with 8-cores and support for DDR4 RAM coming in 2014: Report

We are only just getting used to seeing Intel’s Haswell processors slowly coming to laptops and PCs like the new line of Macbook Airs, Asus Zenbook Infinity and the Alienware X51 among others. Now the chipset company is ready to unveil the enthusiast edition of its Haswell line of chipsets called Haswell-E, according to areport on VR-Zone.
Haswell-E CPUs are said to be built on 22nm 2nd generation Hi-k process and Intel is set to discard the 4-core CPUs for the desktops. Instead, Intel will offer more powerful 6 and 8-core configurations, which can pack up to 20MB of L3 cache. This could theoretically offer between 33 to 50 percent better performance than last year’s enthusiast platform.
Intel will also be unveiling a new series of motherboards along with the Haswell-E chipsets called Wellsburg. These motherboards feature support for DDR4 RAM that can be clocked up to 2,133MHz and will offer up to 50 percent more performance than DDR3 RAMs. In addition, Wellsburg will offer connectivity options like up to 6 USB 3.0 ports, 8 USB 2.0 ports, up to 10 SATA 6Gbps ports and TDP of 6.5W.
