Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani box office: The Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer gets year’s biggest opening at Rs 19.45 crores

The Ayan Mukerji romcom has managed to get a bumper opening at major metropolitan cities

The makers of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, especially producer UTV, Dharma Productions and director Ayan Mukerji and the cast and crew are on cloud nine. And why not? Their latest rom-com has brought them good news at

the box office, on the day of its release. If trade analysts are to be believed, the multiplexes and mass centres all over opened to packed houses for the morning and evening shows.

Single screens too opened to 95-100 percent occupancy for the morning shows, and were running to 90 per cent for the matinee (noon) shows. “The first major release after IPL, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani fetched 95% to 100% start in the morning shows. With a screen count stretching to more than 3,000 screens in India alone, the much-talked-about movie expectedly fetched fabulous numbers on Day 1 and will mint good money in its opening weekend,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

It remains to be seen how this Karan Johar’s romcom performs at smaller centres/single screens over the weekend, but the multiplex business will be so huge that UTV should collect a big fat total eventually. Watch this space for weekend box office collections!
