Rishikesh is known as the white water rafting capital of India
Delhi offers a plethora of options to holiday over the weekend. We list six of the most popular ones.



Located 245 north of Delhi, thousands have trudged to Rishikesh looking for spiritual relief. And that includes the Beatles to Kate Winslet, not to talk of Indians.
Take a dip in the Ganges and pray for salvation. Learn yoga or do temple hopping if you are looking for spiritual relief.
Unlike in the past when Hippies made a beeline for Rishikesh hoping to get a drug induced high, the pilgrim town attracts a lot of youths looking for adrenaline rush these days. Go bungee jumping, kayaking or white water rafting in the Ganges. Other activities forest-trekking and mountain biking.

The Pink City stands for royalty, old world charm and romance. Be ready to be mesmerized by the architectural marvel of Jaipur, its historic markets and its pink painted buildings.
Do check out the sterling silver vessels while visiting the City Palace which the then Maharaja carried with him to London with water from the Ganges. Once done with the palaces, head to Jaigarh and Amber forts. Make sure to check out the largest canon in Asia which has been fired only once.

Agra has become synonymous with the Taj Mahal; however, the region is littered with medieval monuments

Once done sightseeing of the heritage monuments, take a walk through the city’s medieval markets, the city is ideal to buy marble mementoes, handicrafts, leather, jewelry and embroidered textiles. Try Mughlai in Agra which boasts of some of the best restaurants that serve authentic cuisine.

Designed by Corbusier, Chandigarh is the first planned city in India
Famous as ‘The City Beautiful’, Chandigarh is located 250 km away from Delhi. Designed by French architect Le Corbusier, the city is India’s first planned city and one of the best to reside.
Discover Corbusier’s creative imprint in the city, its buildings, residential areas and even in its manhole covers. The city is known for its greenery and Sukhna Lake, the most popular place to unwind for the locals.
Visit its museums like The Evolution of Life Museum, the City Museum, International Dolls Museum and the most important of all the Rock Garden. Unlike Corbusier, Nek Chand gave expression to his creativity using scrap and waste materials.
Chandigarh is best to buy handicrafts, embroidered silk garments, wood crafts and the traditional leather juttis. If you love Punjabi food, then no place serves it better than Chandigarh.

Dehradun serves as the gateway to several hill stations in Uttarakhand
Lying 245 km away from Delhi, it is very popular during summers. Nestled in the foothills of the Himalyan mountain range, the landscape of Dehradun is bright and colourful, giving the city a majestic charm.
Dehradun has been an inspiration for many eminent writers and painters like Ruskin Bond. Dehradun serves as gateway for trekkers and mountaineers en route Garhwal Himalayas, which is popular for its high altitude treks. If adventure activities don’t interest you, stroll down its streets.
Dehradun is a shoppers’ paradise and the best place to buy artifacts, shawls, brass statues and exquisite locally made woodcrafts.

At a distance of 300 km from Delhi, the cantonment town is a popular hill station in Himachal Pradesh. Snow-clad mountains, dense forests and salubrious climate make the place worth visiting.
The remnants of the British past can be found in the Victorian architecture and the quaint old churches. It also has the world’s highest distillery.
Hike to the Sunrise Point, Sunset Point and Monkey Point in Kasauli. Monkey Point provides unparalleled view of the surrounding hills.
