Those who remember the ages old instant messaging service Telegram will no longer be able to access it as BSNL has decided on shutting down the service from July 15, reports ToI. It seems like the proliferation of mobile devices and services like text messages and electronic mails over internet have taken a toll on the 160 years old telegraph service, which has already diminished in terms of usage in last few years.
Two months after BSNL had decided on discontinuing the Telegram services for overseas communication, the company has decided on taking the service off the Indian telephony segment as well.
According to a letter by Shameem Akhtar general manager – Telegram Services in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the Telegram service will no longer be operational from July 15. This notice has been circulated to inform various telecom district offices that none of the telegraph offices under the BSNL will be booking telegrams from the last operational date.
