Just last week, we brought you the first set of leaked photos of Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy S4 Zoom, which was earlier believed to have been slated for an unveiling at the Samsung Premiere 2013 event on June 20 in London. Much to the surprise of many, Samsung has today launched the Galaxy S4 Zoom with a 16-megapixel camera supporting up to 10x optical zoom.
The specifications remain fairly consistent to previous leaks, with the Galaxy S4 Zoom sporting a 4.3-inch sAMOLED qHD (960×540 pixels) display and powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor paired with 1.5GB of RAM.
Other features included on the smartphone are 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card, 2,330mAh battery and connectivity options like optional 3G or LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS. On the software front, the device runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean wrapped under Samsung’s Touchwiz UI and comes pre-loaded with Samsung-specific apps like Samsung Link, HomeSync, Samsung Hub and Group Play among others.
The phone’s USP though is its massive 16-megapixel rear camera with 10x optical zoom and built-in Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS). This camera is complemented with a 1.9-megapixel front camera. As expected, Samsung has the camera bundled with unique software add-ons Smart mode select and smart modes suggest among others.
