The Zhivago-like landscape of Paris, blanketed by an uncharacteristically late-season snow, created an inspiring setting for the Fall/Winter 2013 men’s wear collections. It also emphasized the utility of the cold weather wardrobes on display. Without a plow in sight, showgoers looked on with renewed appreciation, and not a small amount of envy, at the fur-collared parkas and overcoats, the quilted pants and pullovers, and certainly the heavy lug-soled mountaineering boots that were on the runways
Nobody better captured the rich possibilities in men’s ready-to-wear than Kim Jones in his inspired homage to the Himalayas at Louis Vuitton. The windy, snow-capped mountains of Bhutan served as a compelling backdrop, and the foundation of the collection of highly technical mountaineering gear, all executed with impeccable tailoring. Carabiners belted fur-hooded parkas over suits and expedition boots took the place of dress shoes. This gentleman climber was beautifully outfitted in a charcoal shearling parka with a checked cashmere suit and a skin revealing tank top –– a peak performance.
