Apple could launch next-gen MacBook Pro with Retina Display on Intel’s Haswell processor in September: Report

After launching the MacBook Air on Intel’s Haswell chipset in June, Apple could launch the much-awaited update to the MacBook Pro with Retina display in September, according to Hong-Kong based supply chain monitorEMSone. The next generation MacBook Pro would also run on Haswell, bringing with it the benefits of improved power management apart from better graphics processing chops.
Like the current model equipped with the Ivy Bridge silicon, the Haswell CPU is also built using Intel’s 22-nanometer manufacturing process, and its main selling point its massive battery life improvements and graphical performance. In terms of basic CPU performance, Haswell is comparable to Ivy Bridge.
The new MacBook Pro with Retina Display could also have an SKU that will have Intel’s Iris Pro 5200 GPU, instead of the current Nvidia made GPU. The Iris Pro GPU has been built by Intel to compete with Nvidia and AMD based discrete GPU offerings and a presence in Apple’s flagship notebook could be a big win for Intel. Though the GPU remains an unproven element and its performance when compared to Nvidia and AMD based GPUs will remain critical.
