The news was revealed by Alex Kinsella, who is a senior account manager for BBM and BBM Channels at BlackBerry. Spotted by Slashgear, Kinsella revealed that BlackBerry had submitted BBM for iOS for review to the App Store two weeks ago. BlackBerry had earlier released the beta app to select Android and iOS users for testing purposes.
With the launch of the Android and iOS versions of BBM around the corner, one still wonders whether it is already too late for BlackBerry. The last official figure for BBM users was 72 million, which without any doubt would have gone down even further since the announcement in June. Meanwhile other messaging apps like WhatsApp (over 300 million monthly active users), WeChat (over 100 million registered users outside China) and Line (over 200 million users) have taken the lead over BBM, which used to be a USP of BlackBerry smartphones.
